Hua Jing Li

I’m a British Chinese born in Shanghai in the late 80s, who started my art journey at 3 years ( I was enrolled at art school to relieve my fear of blood).

I’m inspired by pockets of nature in London and the atmospheric changes in light and colour. You will find me often painting en plain air because it’s the best way to capture light, I also tinker with photography.

For me, art is so much more than just aesthetics. It’s about healing, connecting, and evoking those emotions we can’t quite put into words.

I’m drawn to vivid expressions of atmospheric colour and light in nature. It is a reminder from Mother Nature to reset, reflect and reconnect to our inner self. .

My inspiration comes from masters like Constable, Turner, Monet, and Gauguin. However, I’m always searching for my own voice in that space between bold expression and subtle storytelling.

I work in acrylics and watercolours with limited colours because colour hues should be created rather than off the shelf. There is something therapeutic and beautiful about in mixing colours and mindfully painting.

Mostly importantly, I believe art should be unlocked from ivory towers. Instead it should live in the everyday, touch our hearts, and be accessible to everyone who needs its healing power.

‘Those with nerves exhausted by work could relax there…would provide a refuge of peaceful meditation...”
