Hua Jing Li
I’m a British Chinese born in Shanghai in the late 80s, who started my art journey at 3 years ( I was enrolled at art school to relieve my fear of blood).
My art is about crafting conscious thinking and connection through capturing fleeting moments in life (I know a lot of words beginning with ‘C - it’s not AI slop, promise).
Our busy lifestyle and digitally driven world often results to a disconnect from being in the present. We don’t intentionally pause, observe and enjoy simple moments - such as atmospheric changes in light and colour.
Through an exploration of light and colour in my brush strokes, my art work serves as a reminder to pause intentionally, think consciously and connect as humans.
I work in acrylics and watercolours with limited colours because colour hues should be created rather than off the shelf. There is something therapeutic, rare and beautiful about mixing colours and mindfully painting.

Most illnesses attack the body
Alzheimer’s destroys the mind- and the process, annihilates the very self

I still remember how dementia slowly eroded the minds of my grandparents.
My grandma was bed bound for the last years of her life and I struggled with the loss of my grandma; a thriving strong woman who refused to bind her feet reduced to a adult toddler.
Though my grandma is no longer with us, her relentless resilience lives in my work and to honour her dynamic spirit, 10% of proceeds from my art as an artist and art practitioner will be donated to Alzheimer's Society.
