About · London studio

Refresh & restore yourself in art.

I'm Jing, a London-based painter working primarily in acrylics. My art is an invitation back to the offline world and losing oneself in wonder — a way of staying in touch with reality, not losing ourselves to the screen.

Through long expressive strokes beside short, stark ones, my paintings reflect the full spectrum of the offline world.

  • Offline wonder

An invitation back to touching, feeling and creating with our hands.

  • London, loved

An ode to its iconic architecture, its traditions and aimless wandering.

  • No rigid plan

Colour and composition unfold as I paint — the brushstrokes write the story.

Why I paint

Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life.

— Pablo Picasso

That is what I hope my paintings do for you. In a busy, screen-filled life, art can be a place to rest your eyes, breathe out and let your stress levels come down, even for a moment.

And then, I hope, it makes you want to look up from your phone and go and explore the offline world: wander a street you've never walked down, sit in a park a little longer, notice the light on an old building. The best views of London aren't on a screen.

I'm colour therapy certified, so I choose every palette with mood in mind: colours that help you slow down and feel at ease.

My approach

Art is a dialogue. You finish the story.

I believe art should be co-created between the creator and the receiver. There is a dialogue: I set the frame or theme, and you add to it and finish the narrative with your own lived experience.

Most of my paintings are open compositions — scenes that continue beyond what is visible. What happens past the edge of the canvas is left for you to complete.

  1. 01

    I set the frame

I choose the theme and paint the scene — and leave it open at the edges.

  2. 02

    You bring your story

Your memories and lived experience fill in what lies beyond the canvas.

  3. 03

    The story is complete

Your mind finishes what the painting begins, and the piece becomes yours.

An Inherited Artistic Lens

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

My father was a marine engineer by profession, but his passion was black and white photography. He turned his Shanghai university dorm room into a makeshift darkroom, developing his own photos between engineering lectures.

His analog photographs document a nation in transformation.

It is where my own artistic sensibilities were born: the composition, the attention to light and shadow, the understanding that art is often an act of devotion. There is a patience in watching an image emerge slowly in the dark, shade by shade, rather than appearing instantly at the press of a button. Nothing about it is automated — it is a handcraft, rooted in reality, that asks for time, care, and the willingness to wait for the picture to reveal itself.

I'm grateful for his artistic lens.

The Art of Noticing

Orchids are rare and delicate.

They command attention only if you take the time to notice, rather than glance and scroll past. Placing hand-folded origami versions around London was an invitation to do just that: to notice, and to create with our hands.

This is the art of noticing, and it runs through everything I make.

In my paintings, it means letting colour and composition unfold stroke by stroke, rather than being swallowed in a single glance.

In my workshops, it means three hours where painting replaces scrolling, and a slow, curated in-person session.

Both are ways of creating by hand and staying in touch with reality.

The origami orchids found by chance and a reminder to wonder offline.
