Womanhood

Marking 40 years

The quiet strength of femininity. The ever-evolving meaning of what it means to be a woman — told through hands and flowers.

Series I

Numbers in Nature

Inspired by my best friend Emma Leaning and her musing on what number actually count when our days are numbered.

Society fixates on youth and youth is often symbolised through flowers blooming.

As I turn 40 this year, I wanted to redefine that symbolism through the lessons nature teaches us.

Aging isn’t about depreciating over time, it’s about seasons, evolution and that life is a journey rather than one destination.

While my Asian genes make it hard to believe, I'm turning 40 this year.

I’m marking this milestone with a series of art works on womanhood through hands and flowers.

Numbers in Nature explores what nature teaches us about evolving with time, rather than depreciating over time.

At the centre of the canvas is a chrysanthemum flower in full, unapologetic bloom. The petals are layered in a deep royal purple-pink, voluminous and unrestrained.

Below it, lush bottle-green leaves ground the composition, anchoring the flower's softness with something rooted and alive.

A hand reaches up to hold the stem. Not picking the flower or presenting but simply holding it.

The gesture is quiet strength that is simultaneously soft and steady.

The colour palette is intentional. No single skin tone was chosen but an array.

The warm peachs, terracottas, and deep mauves of the hand move through the full spectrum of human skin, set against the lush greens of the stem and leaves, and the rich purple-pinks of the bloom.

This painting was made for all women to find themselves in it.

The first series of the 2026 Womanhood collection.
