Numbers in Nature

£4,500.00

Acrylics on Canvas

Size: : 91.4 x 61cm (36 x 24 inches)

Inspired by my best friend Emma Leaning and her musing on what number actually count when our days are numbered.

Society fixates on youth and youth is often symbolised through flowers blooming.

As I turn 40 this year, I wanted to redefine that symbolism through the lessons nature teaches us.

Aging isn’t about depreciating over time, it’s about seasons, evolution and that life is a journey rather than one destination.

At the centre of the canvas is a chrysanthemum flower in full, unapologetic bloom. The petals are layered in a deep royal purple-pink, voluminous and unrestrained.

Below it, lush bottle-green leaves ground the composition, anchoring the flower's softness with something rooted and alive.

A hand reaches up to hold the stem. Not picking the flower or presenting but simply holding it.

The gesture is quiet strength that is simultaneously soft and steady.
